June membership meeting at Watkins Glen

On June 17, 100 members of Quilters Consortium of New York State met in Watkins Glen for their quarterly meeting.   The meeting was hosted by O'Susannah's Quilt Shop.  Members were treated to a wonderful lunch, and in a wonderful gesture, Sue Knapp of O'Susannah's gifted the monies received for the lunch to one of her staff to helpful pay for costs incurred for her cancer treatment,

Arriving at the meeting, we were checked in.

Raffle Quilt by Candlelight Quilt Guild

Another raffle quilt (I missed the guild who made this)

This quilt will be raffled at the next meeting with proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

Sue Knapp tells us of some of the specials in her shop, O'Susannah's. Below, one of her staff does a short demo.

As part of the meeting, 2 discussions were held for those attending.  This session was led by Ann Hawkins, discussing social media and Internet networking!   The other group discussed helpful hints in locating a national teacher and bringing the teacher to your guild for lectures and workshops.

The next meeting will be September 16, hosted by Piecemakers of Moravia.

Thumbstall Quilt Guild Honors Local Veteran

Thumbstall Quilt Guild, one of our guild members in central New York State presented this quilt to a 96 year old veteran at the VFW in Skaneateles this past Sunday!    Quilters are a caring group and this is a great way to honor those who have served our country.

More from the Genesee Valley Quilt Show

The show is over but the rave reviews keep coming in!

This was the huge gift gallery....always a fun place to shop where members can make q little bit of money and the club can benefit with a small percentage also.

The club issued a challenge exhibit, headed up by Val Schultz and Julie Brandon called "my Corner of the Universe". The idea was to show our place in the universe or what makes it our happy place.  The winner was Elaine Ross (yes that's me) with her quilt called "My Corner of the Sky" depicting looking up thru the trees to the sky,  I picked this as I love to be outside in nature and because my favorite song of the musical "Pippin" is called "My Corner of the Sky".

There were over 700 quilts, so obviously something to please everyone,

The Best of Show was won by Vickie Coykendahl with her exquisitely machine quilted masterpiece called Feathers Galore.

It's hard to see the machine quilting here, but it was outstanding,

The winner of the raffle quilt was Sally Hersberg, a long time club member.

Iron quilter winners were Sarah Terry, Beth Brandkamp and Mary Weiser,   (Sorry I don't have pics of those finished creations)

Genesee Valley Quilt Club Show

The Genesee Valley quilt show is in full swing!  With over 600 quilts and over 65 vendors, there is plenty to see and do!   I will share some of my favorites over the next few days!

This quilt by Christine Wickert was deemed Best of Show!   It is done in all silk, hand appliqué and hand quilting.   It even has a silk backing!  I'm sorry I forget the name, I'll try to get it and add later,   The quilt itself measures 30 x 60.   She didn't start out to make it this size,,,,it made itself!

This is another of my favorites!   It is called "Dreamtime" by Antonio Herring and demonstrates her love of Australia.   It was a Judges Choice,    Not only is it very colorful....but...all of the dots you see are hand appliqués circles....perfectly round,    It is mind boggling that someone could do that.

Closeup of detailed circles,

This quilt by Janet Atkins is called "Murderskill Crossing". It won several awards.....very colorful.
