The
Mexicali Quilters have been busy making donations quilts for the Operation
Reindeer organization to help give children in the area a warm quilt for
Christmas. Loretta Grandjean and Debbie Licourt chair this committee and set a
hefty goal for the 2015. The guild members came through and Thursday, November
12th the guild turned over the 200 quilts to the representatives of
Operation Reindeer. Along with the Operation Reindeer donations, we also donate
quilts and walker bags to our Veterans. This year the guild has donated 50 lap
quilts and approximately 50 walker bags.
Loretta and Debbie are passionate in their roles as
donation chairs. This past month Loretta entered our guild in the contest
sponsored by The Warm Company. The grand prize was approximately 195 yards of
batting along with 80 yards of Steam a Seam. There were over 150 guilds
participating in this contest. Loretta monitored the website daily (or maybe it
was hourly?) to make sure our members were signing in and that their entries
were being counted. Over 65 members logged in and “LIKED” The Warm Company. The
prize has been received and Loretta and Debbie were featured on The Warm Company
Facebook page. Now the quilting begins for next year. This prize will go a long
way in helping our guild to provide for those in need. Knowing Loretta and
Debbie, we are sure the goal will be higher next year.
The
quild has been busy this fall as we held our first Quilt Show in Williamstown,
New York. Over 300 visitors came through the doors of the old Williamstown
elementary school. Over 200 member quilts were on display in various rooms along
with a Boutique and several vendor booths. Quilt Show Chair Ellen Walker, along
with her committee did a fantastic job of pulling all this together and making
it a great success. Our raffle quilt was donated by member Carol Fitzsimmons and won by Julie Burger of Oswego, NY.
