QCNYS meeting hosted by Thread Bears Quilt Guild
December 8 was our quarterly membership meeting in Verona hosted by the Thread Bears Quilt Guild of Sherrill, NY. The room was filled to capacity and the agenda was full. Outgoing officers Val Schultz as Vice President and Martha Wetzler as secretary were honored as new officers Dawn Garafolo and Debbie Lester were installed in those respective positions. Members were treated to a show and tell by Susan Jones of Twilight Stitchers who won the Scholarhip award last year, showing her latest Judy Niemeyer quilts. Cathy Rohr from Tug Hill Quilters gave a report on the community service grant awarded to her guild last year.
After lunch Jackie O'Brien showed us several new rulers and quilts she had designed using those rulers. More pictures from that will follow another day. For now, here are some "around the room" shots from the meeting.
Vendor row. They were kept busy all day with new items for us to peruse and purchase.
Silent Auction baskets prepared by the host guild. All of them were filled with lots of wonderful goodies.

Museum Quilt Guild celebrates the holidays with the Holland Land OfficeMuseum "Wonderland of Trees"
Every year the Holland Land Office Museum celebrates the holidays with a "Wonderland of Trees". Since our guild started at the Museum, and we take our name from our beginnings, it is only natural that we would participate as one of more than 25 local groups invited to decorate a tree. Here are our guild helpers in the middle of decorating the tree this year, Prizes are awarded each year and the proceeds from those that visit the display benefits the work of the museum in our community,

Mexcali Quilters - getting a head start on the season!
The
Mexicali Quilters have been busy making donations quilts for the Operation
Reindeer organization to help give children in the area a warm quilt for
Christmas. Loretta Grandjean and Debbie Licourt chair this committee and set a
hefty goal for the 2015. The guild members came through and Thursday, November
12th the guild turned over the 200 quilts to the representatives of
Operation Reindeer. Along with the Operation Reindeer donations, we also donate
quilts and walker bags to our Veterans. This year the guild has donated 50 lap
quilts and approximately 50 walker bags.
Loretta and Debbie are passionate in their roles as
donation chairs. This past month Loretta entered our guild in the contest
sponsored by The Warm Company. The grand prize was approximately 195 yards of
batting along with 80 yards of Steam a Seam. There were over 150 guilds
participating in this contest. Loretta monitored the website daily (or maybe it
was hourly?) to make sure our members were signing in and that their entries
were being counted. Over 65 members logged in and “LIKED” The Warm Company. The
prize has been received and Loretta and Debbie were featured on The Warm Company
Facebook page. Now the quilting begins for next year. This prize will go a long
way in helping our guild to provide for those in need. Knowing Loretta and
Debbie, we are sure the goal will be higher next year.
The
quild has been busy this fall as we held our first Quilt Show in Williamstown,
New York. Over 300 visitors came through the doors of the old Williamstown
elementary school. Over 200 member quilts were on display in various rooms along
with a Boutique and several vendor booths. Quilt Show Chair Ellen Walker, along
with her committee did a fantastic job of pulling all this together and making
it a great success. Our raffle quilt was donated by member Carol Fitzsimmons and won by Julie Burger of Oswego, NY.

Quilters consortium of New York State raffle quilt.
This is our raffle quilt constructed by several different guilds and members of the consortium. It is 90 x 90 and the proceeds benefit the Linda Storrings Educational Fund. Linda, who passed away this past year, was a very integral part of the consortium since its inception. She worked tirelessly on membership and making sure all information was up to date. She transitioned the process from all paperwork to computer during her term, The scholarship is so named because of her efforts and love of quilting. The fund will benefit guilds by awarding a scholarship to aid in bringing national teachers to our local area. To purchase tickets, see any member or guild member or visit www.qnys.org.
